Q. Why is my water usage unusually high?
A. There may be several reasons that your usage could be unusually high. The first thing to check is a leaking toilet or other plumbing fixtures. Some other reasons could be due to excessive lawn watering during summer, or it is possible the meter was misread. If you have any questions regarding usage please contact the Water Department's Billing Personnel and we will gladly check your reading.
Q. What is the fee to connect to the Public Water System?
A. The Standard Residential Fee for a Water Service is $3,250. Other Fees may apply for commercial and industrial connections. Please contact the Engineering Division for additional information.
Q. What is the fee to connect to the Sanitary Sewer System?
A. The standard Residential Fee for a Sanitary Sewer Service is $3,500. Other Fees may apply for commercial and industrial connections. Please contact the Engineering Division for additional information.
Q. Sewage is backing up in my house, what do I do?
A. There are two types of sewage backup. The first one is an internal plumbing problem which only occurs when using internal plumbing fixtures. If this occurs please contact a plumber. The second type of back up is when sewage is backing up into your house from the City Sewer System. If this occurs contact the Sewer Department during normal business hours at (860) 638-3500. After hours contact the Central Dispatch at (860) 346-8621, they will contact the on call Sewer Department Personnel.
Q. Who's responsible for any problem with the sewer lateral in the street?
A. The homeowner is responsible for the lateral up to and including the "Y" at the main line sewer.
Q. The tap water looks discolored or tastes unusual.
A. Please contact the Water Sources Superintendent for all Water Quality complaints.
Q. Where does the water I drink come from?
A. Middletown currently has two active sources: Mount Higby Reservoir and the River Road Well fields. For additional information please review the water quality report.
Q. When do I need to pay my bill?
A. Bills should be paid within 30 days from the first of the month in which you are billed.
Q. How often do I get billed?
A. Residential users are billed two times a year. Once in May and other in November. Larger water consumers are billed monthly.
Q. Is my water safe to Drink?
A. Yes! The water that you receive from the Middletown Water Department is extremely safe to drink. We constantly monitor and test the water. For additional information see our Water Quality Report.
