Sneaker Recycling!
Congratulations
Middletown! City residents recycled 1.49 tons of sneakers from April - June
2009. All the sneakers are shipped to Nike manufacturers, who recycle the
sneaks into athletic surfaces such as basketball courts, tracks and
playgrounds. Great job! If you have more old sneakers, hold on to them for
next year and we'll start collecting them again at the Middletown Recycling
Center in April 2010!!!

Grass Disposal
Just a reminder that in accordance with State Law grass can no longer be thrown
away as regular garbage. The City of Middletown suggests leaving the clippings
on the lawn for fertilization. Grass clippings can also be composted or used as
mulch. For a free brochure, contact the City Recycling Coordinator at 344-3526
or E-mail her at:
kim.orourke@cityofmiddletown.com.
If residents occasionally cannot leave it on the lawn, they can bring it to the
Recycling Center for composting. All grass must be emptied out of bags and
in order to reduce odors, we ask residents not to store grass in bags for long
periods of time before delivery to the Recycling Center.

grass composting.
Recycling Nickel Cadmium Batteries: (860) 344-3526
Nickel Cadmium batteries (or ni-cads) are mandated by state law to be recycled.
Cadmium is extremely toxic to our health and environment if disposed of
improperly. Ni-cads are found in portable telephones, radios, and power tools,
and they are usually marked "nickel cadmium - dispose of properly." In
Connecticut, these batteries can be brought back to a retail drop off store.
Stores that process the recycling of the batteries in Middletown are:
-
- Boomer McCloud on DeKoven Drive
- Midtown Photo on Main Street
-
- Radio Shack on Washington Street
- Staples on Washington Street
